“Learning is not the product of teaching. Learning is the product of the activity of learners.” –John Holt

Free Classes and Beyond

The Madison Free Skool offers free classes for anyone to attend.  Contact teachers directly for more information about their class or to RSVP.

Attending classes and learning from a teacher is only one element of an education.  Other tools include:

  • Self-education:  Learning on your own, using free resources like the public library, parks and nature, things in your environment, and more.
  • Peer-to-peer:  Finding people who are interested in the same thing as you.  Pick a specific book, article, zine or film and meet over coffee to discuss.  If you want, design your own reading list, experiments or projects and share insights, questions, and doubts.
  • Seek out a teacher/mentor.  Does someone you know have skills that you want?  Ask them to teach a free skool class or simply go to them for advice on current projects.
